The Indira Gandhi National Open University (Ignou) will admit students belonging to the Scheduled Caste and Scheduled Tribes categories for all its academic programmes up to graduation level at zero fees, after exempting the fees to transgenders.
Ignou’s regional director Manorama Singh said students belonging to SC/ST categories will be granted admission even through offline mode without the payment of any admission fees. It will be implemented in January 2018 admission cycle, Singh added.
Students under this category, who have applied online and have deposited the fees, will be reimbursed after the confirmation of admissions.
This scheme will be applicable in all certificate programme of six months’ duration, all diploma programmes of one year’s duration and all graduate programmes, including bachelors of arts, science, commerce, tourism, social work, computer application, education and library science.
The fees will also be reimbursed for all the students seeking admission in the second and third year of the graduation level programme.
Singh added that a two-page admission application form is available at the study centres for applying in offline mode. The SC/ST students may apply in any of these programmes along with their mark-sheets and caste certificate and the filled in application forms should reach the Ignou Regional Centre in Lucknow on or before January 31, 2018.
All the study centres have been instructed to popularise this scheme amongst the various stakeholders especially in rural areas for maximum reach of the benefits, she said.
Anshuman Upadhyaya, assistant regional director, said the admission seekers may also contact the nearest Common Service Centre and can get the print out of the Common Admission Form, which can be used by SC/ST candidates under the fee exemption scheme.
