A really sad news for all the Bollywood film lovers and fans of Kalpana Lajmi, the Rudaali director succumbed to cancer and passed away earlier this morning. The screenwriter and director, 64, was suffering from kidney cancer for a long time now. Confirming the news, the Chief Minister of Assam, Sarbanada Sonowal took to Twitter and wrote, “Saddened to learn about the demise of veteran filmmaker #KalpanaLajmi ji. Her contribution to Indian cinema will be remembered forever.”
The veteran filmmaker has made films like Rudaali and Damanthat changed the face of Indian cinema. Lajmi was known for her off-beat films that were mostly women-centric. Kalpana was suffering from Kidney cancer since 2015 when a tumour was found in her kidney.
