To spread awareness and sensitize the masses about causes, prevention and cure of HIV/AIDS, Red Ribbon Club of Govt. College for Women Udhampur celebrated World AIDS Day 2018, in collaboration with J&K State AIDS Control Society. Organised under the co-convenership of Prof B. P Singh, the event had poster making competition and slogan writing competition. Principal of the college, Dr. Chander Shekhar was the Chief Guest on this occasion. Large number of students participated in the activities, and made posters on the theme “Know Your Status”, depicting the causes, prevention and cure of the deadly HIV/AIDS and also wrote slogans with meaningful messages on the theme “Drug De-addiction”. Jury members comprised of Prof. Ashni Devi, Prof. Sumita Rao and Prof. Sunil Singh Barheyan. 1st, 2nd and 3rd prizes in poster making competition were bagged by Akriti Sharma, Sonia Banal and Shriya Gupta, respectively, whereas Tanvi Gupta, Shruti and Rupali Sharma were adjudged as 1st, 2nd and 3rd, respectively, in slogan writing competition. In his address, Principal of the college, Dr Chander Shekhar lauded the efforts of the Red Ribbon Club in organising such social awareness programmes in the educational institution and said that such programmes will go a long way in spreading awareness in the society about contemporary social issues as students are the best ambassadors.
