PoK man dies after brief illness in Rajouri

A 61-year-old man from Pakistan-occupied Kashmir, who had come to visit his relatives on a permit, died after a brief illness in Jammu’s Rajouri district, officials said Friday. Maqsood Hussain died on Thursday at a hospital. He was a resident of Jhelum district of Pakistan, they said. Hussain had arrived at his relatives’ house in Rajouri on October 29 on a cross-border bus service through Chakan Da Bagh crossing, they said, adding the body of the deceased will be sent home for last rites. The Indian authorities from District Administration Poonch in presence of security agencies handed over the dead body to the Pak authorities at Chakkan-da-Bagh LoC point. The two brothers of the deceased and relatives from Rajouri also accompanied. Some family members from Islampur (Jehlum) had also arrived there at the LoC point to receive the body. Maj Vignesh Kumar from 15 MLI ( Indian Army), Maj Ishtiaq ( Pak Army), Ist Class Magistrate Akhtar Abbas from Poonch, DySP Poonch Mohd Abbas, Tehsildar Hajira (POK)- Mohd Ikhlaq Khan besides two doctors and a few police officers from both the sides were also present on the occasion. After performing legal formalities, the body packed in a coffin was handed over to the Pak authorities.
