Vicky Gounder taunted police on Facebook: Read the real story of Punjab’s most-wanted gangster

Facebook addiction is a typical lifestyle issue that plagues today’s generation and Harjinder Singh Bhullar was no exception. Except that Bhullar was no ordinary 20-something. Known to the world as Vicky Gounder, the 28-year-old was Punjab’s most-wanted gangster, who was killed in an encounter on Friday.  A resident of Sarawan Bodla village in ex-Chief Minister Parkash Singh Badal’s home ground Lumbi, Gounder was evading arrest since 2016, when he made sensational escape from maximum-security Nabha Central Jail in Punjab. The infamous gangster was known to taunt police with his mocking posts on Facebook, where he would openly announce killings and shootouts, while he was still lodged in jail. His terror run affected not just Punjab, but Haryana, Rajasthan and Uttar Pradesh also.  Gounder was wanted in as many as 15 cases of murder, kidnapping and robbery in these four states.  His rivalry with another gangster Sukha Kahlwan from Jallandhar’s Kapurthala ended in a gruesome killing. In a chilling sequence of events, Gounder reportedly danced around Kahlwan’s body and recorded the event in Phagwara.  In 2015, he was arrested in Ropar for Kahalwan’s murder. A year later, he made a daring escape from the high-security Nabha prison. He was reportedly in touch with extremists in Jammu and Kashmir also.
