Players of Indian cricket team are often spotted playing football amongst themselves, be it just for fitness drills or leisure. When one of their practice sessions was ruined by rain in Guwahati recently, Indian players utilised the time by playing football.
Virat Kohli and MS Dhoni are two cricketers who are known to be good football players. However, when asked about the best football player in the Indian team, Kohli said it is Manish Pandey.
The Indian skipper recently spoke to Jatin Sapru about the upcoming ‘Celebrity Clasico’ in which his team will be up against Ranbir Kapoor’s side, with the football match to be played on October 15.
The match will see Kohli leading the All Heart FC team, while the Bollywood star would captain All Star FC.
Post conclusion of the 2nd T20I between India and Australia in Guwahati, Kohli appeared on Star Sports, having a casual chat with Sapru about the football match, while also discussion which team member in the current squad has the best football skills.
The Indian captain’s answer was ‘Manish Pandey’, who is also known to have topped the recent ‘Yo-Yo’ Test conducted by the team management.
A similar styled football match also took place between Virat Kohli and Abhishek Bachchan’s sides in 2016 , which was also termed as ‘Celebrity Clasico’.
The match, took place at the Mumbai Football Arena, Andheri Sports Complex, to generate funds for charitable initiatives in which Kohli and Bachchan are involved. Abhishek didn’t make it to the playing XI due to back injury and his team was hence led by Ranbir Kapoor.
Apart from Kohli and MS Dhoni, some famous cricketering names like Zaheer Khan, Harbhajan Singh, Yuvraj Singh, Ajinkya Rahane, R. Ashwin and Ajinkya Rahane also played in the match last year.
